Black Sabbath – Deep Black: Live in Worcester, MA, 1983 (12-Inch Double-LP)

Black Sabbath – Deep Black: Live in Worcester, MA, 1983 (12-Inch Double-LP)

This double album captures Black Sabbath’s blistering concert at the Centrum, in Worcester, Massachusetts, on 4 November 1983, during the Born Again Tour.

Featuring the legendary Ian Gillan (of Deep Purple fame) at the helm, this release includes Sabbath classics such as Paranoid, War Pigs, Iron Man and Children of the Grave, alongside an electrifying rendition of Smoke on the Water, and more.

Following a three-year stint as Black Sabbath’s vocalist, Ronnie James Dio left the band in 1982 to form his own band, and took drummer Vinny Appice with him.

Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler began auditioning singers for the band’s next release. Deep Purple and Whitesnake’s David Coverdale, Samson’s Nicky Moore and Lone Star’s John Sloman were all considered, but the band settled on former Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan as Dio’s replacement.

The band’s eleventh studio album, Born Again, was on 12 September 1983, and reached No. 4 in the United Kingdom, and No. 39 in the United States, becoming the highest charting Black Sabbath album in the United Kingdom since Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in 1973.
